1934

Mr. Chow Fang Pu set up 'Chow Sang Sang Goldsmith' in Guangzhou.
The name is a masterful contraction of the adage '周而復始 生生不息' which means 'Sustained Vitality, Ever Rejuvenated'. Taking three characters out of the eight, the allusion to the family surname and the adage is subtle but clear.

1938

In 1938, Guangzhou fell to the Japanese in their invasion of China. Mr. Chow Fang Pu moved his family and relocated the business to Macau.

1941

Mr. Chow Fang Pu divided his shops among his sons in 1941. The shop in Macau was endowed to Mr. Chow Kwen Ling, Dr. Chow Kwen Lim and Mr. Chow Kwen Yum.

1948

In 1948, the three brothers opened a shop in Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, Hong Kong.

1957

In 1957, the three brothers formed Chow Sang Sang Jewellery & Goldsmith Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong. A shop in Yau Ma Tei carried the new name.

1960s

As the branches multiplied, the business moved from being a gold shop to a jewellery store. Diamond, jade and pearl became mainstays. Watches from Rolex, Tudor and other brands were introduced.

1963

Store opening in Yuen Long in 1963.

1971

In 1971, the company changed its name to 'Chow Sang Sang Jewellery Company Limited'.

1973

In 1973, Chow Sang Sang became the first jewellery company to be publicly listed in Hong Kong, under Stock Code 116.

1979

In 1979, the Chow Sang Sang Building in Jordan was completed.

1980s

The first to use computer driven electronic balances for (1) weighing and tagging of gold ornaments and (b) searching of gold droplets to make up ingots of fixed weights. Both labour and errors were reduced.

1981

A store opening in Tsuen Wan.

1983

In 1983, a year of the pig, the first ever stylized pig in pure gold was rolled out. Riding on its success, the Company has since brought out many series of the 'Chinese zodiac' animals.

1985

Another store opening event in Tsuen Wan in 1985.

1987

A Mong Kok store opening.

1989

Another opening in Nathan Road, Mong Kok.

Store opening in Tuen Mun.

In 1990, Chow Sang Sang Precious Metal Laboratory became the first commercial organization to attain accreditation for gold testing from The Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) under the Hong Kong Trade and Industry Department. In 1995 testing for platinum was also accredited.

The Corporate Gift Team was formed to offer one-stop service to businesses.

Our designers won numerous awards in design competitions. These striking pieces were winners in the 'De Beers Diamonds – International Awards' and the 'Hong Kong Diamond Design Competition'.

In 1994, Emphasis Jewellery was set up as a trend-setting jewellery shop with a cosy atmosphere.

The winning pieces of Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition organized by the Hong Kong Jewellers' & Goldsmiths' Association in 1994.

Store opening in North Point in 1995.

'Emphasis Jewellery' entered the Taiwan, China market in 1995.

In 1995, www.chowsangsang.com and www.emphasis.com both went online, the first jewellery store websites in Hong Kong to do so.

The character Doraemon appeared in a collection of jewellery based on cartoon characters.

Sailor Moon made her debut.

Crayon Shin-chan came on board.

In 1995, the musical 'Phantom of the Opera' first came to Hong Kong. A collection of pins made based on the Mask was rolled out under an exclusive license.

In 1997, Hello Kitty and her friends came on the scene.

In 1998, Chow Sang Sang's retail management system was certified under ISO 9002 Standard, the first jewellery company in Hong Kong to have done so.

1999

In 1999, Ultraman joined the ranks.

2001

Chow Sang Sang 'e-shop' started its operation.

2004

In 2004, an agreement was signed to fit out and operate a jewellery store in Hong Kong Disneyland.

2004

Licensed to use Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters as design themes.

2004

The winning piece in the International Diamond Jewellery Design Competition organized by Diamond Trading Company (DTC) in 2004 - Powdery Snow.

2005

In 2005, Chow Sang Sang became a select client ('Sightholder') of the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) of the De Beers group, thus able to source rough diamonds directly from the world's largest supplier.

2005

Hong Kong Disneyland opened. Inside, Midtown Jewelry, owned and operated by Chow Sang Sang, started business at the same time.

2005

Received the 'Caring Company' hallmark for Year 2004/05 bestowed by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service.

2006

To give Chow Sang Sang Jewellery a more prominent identity, it was given a new logo, as distinct from the Group's logo in 2006.

2006

The collection Diamond in Motion made its first appearance. Launched a new timepiece-influenced Diamond in Motion collection in 2006.

The winning piece in the Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition organized by the Hong Kong Jewellers' & Goldsmiths' Association in 2006 - Undying Diva, Dance for Peace.

2007

Became a member of the newly founded Shanghai Diamond Exchange, faciliating the importation of diamonds into China.

Opening of the Mongkok Megastore in 2007.

Chow Sang Sang eShop extended online jewellery shopping services to Chinese Mainland.

2009. Sanlitun, Beijing. The first flagship store in Chinese Mainland with 3 storeys and 600 sq.m.

Opening event for two stores on Nanjing Road East, Shanghai.

2010 World Expo Shanghai. The Love Diamond Antwerp Diamond Museum Collection was exhibited in the Belgium Pavilion.

In 2011, a new pearl brand La Pelle was founded.

The iconic shop at Carnarvon Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, opened.

In 2012, the diamond brand Infini Love Diamond was inaugurated.

Chow Sang Sang Production Centre in Shunde started operation. The purpose-built facility utilizes the latest technology in energy saving, emission reduction and production technologies. The formal opening ceremony took place on 21st March 2014.

Launched the youthful charm bracelet collection Charme in 2013.

Chow Sang Sang launched wedding bands collection Promessa in 2013.

The brand new Chow Sang Sang Star Shopper Programme was launched.

The first concept store featuring dailywear jewellery was opened in Guangdong Shenzhen 9square shopping centre.

The first EMPHASIS jewellery boutique in Chinese Mainland was opened in Guangzhou Taikoohui in November.

First PROMESSA Personalised Jewellery Store was opened at The Mixc Mall, Chongqing.

In recognition of the Group's digital transformation, omni-channel strategy and the pursuit of enhancing customer experience through technology, Chow Sang Sang has been awarded 'the Enterprise of the Year' in the Dingge – Digital Transformation Awards 2021 organised by Harvard Business Review and SAP.

The World’s first V&A Museum x Chow Sang Sang Jewellery Concept Store was opened at K11 MUSEA, Hong Kong.

2024

Became the first jewellery company in Greater China to have near-term carbon reduction targets approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), working towards limiting the global temperature increase to within the 1.5°C as set by the Paris Agreement.
